The Gamble House is a unique and beautiful setting for meetings, seminars, retreats, luncheons, dinners or picnics for corporations, private or non-profit organizations and special interest groups. 
 
The house is not available for weddings (ceremonies or receptions), fundraisers, religious events, political events, memorial services, proms/school dances, family/class reunions or other private celebratory events such as birthdays, graduations, retirement or anniversary parties. 
 
In keeping with our mission to promote the architecture and design of Greene & Greene to the public, all events at the Gamble House include a self-guided interior tour of the first floor, unless otherwise arranged in advance. Additional touring options, which can include docent-led tours of the entire house, are available for an additional fee. 
 
All guests must follow all health and safety protocols as outlined in the rental agreement.


RENTAL SPACES

REAR TERRACE AND GARDEN: The garden terrace is available for events that include food and drink service. The terrace accommodates approximately 80 people for a stand-up event, or about 50 seated. Groups of up to 300 can be accommodated on the terrace and adjacent lawn during fair-weather months.

THIRD-FLOOR ATTIC: Originally designed as a billiard room, this dramatic space, with the truss-and-beam ceiling and natural light on all sides, is furnished with conference style tables and comfortable upholstered armchairs. It is ideal for meetings and seminars of up to 25 people. Food and refreshments may be arranged either in the basement or on the garden terrace for groups using the attic.

BASEMENT: This area is suitable for lunches, dinners, and receptions, as well as meetings and lectures in all seasons. When arranged with round tables and chairs for lunch or dinner, it can accommodate up to 40 people. When set up with theater-style seating, up to 60 people can be accommodated.

All event bookings are subject to a site fee, a contract and insurance requirements.

Site fees include: Set-up and tear down of tables and chairs (only if using Gamble House supply), and use of warming kitchen. Catering fees, required rentals and services are not included.


BOOKING AN EVENT

DEPOSIT: Bookings must be made at least three months in advance of a desired date and a 10% non-refundable deposit towards the event fee is due at that time. The balance of the payment is due no later than two weeks prior to the event date. Booking deposits will be forfeited on cancellations less than 30 days prior to the event date. TOURS: All events at the Gamble House include a self-guided interior tour of the first floor, unless otherwise arranged in advance. Guests may arrive to the front door, enjoy the first floor at their leisure and exit onto the rear terrace to enjoy your event. All food and drink must stay outdoors.

INSURANCE: All contracts must be accompanied by a Certificate of Liability Insurance with a limit of at least $1,000,000 and listing the Gamble House Conservancy and the City of Pasadena as “additional insured” on each form.

FORMS OF PAYMENT: The Gamble House Conservancy accepts checks and all major credit cards as forms of payment. Please make out checks to: The Gamble House Conservancy.

EVENT HOURS: Events must be advertised to end by 10pm, and all event attendees/staff/hired caterers must exit the property no later than 10:30pm.


REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICIES

Please be aware that the Gamble House may be required to cancel events on short notice under pandemic conditions. Complete refunds will apply in such cases.

While rear terrace and garden events can be tented in the event of rain, you are ultimately responsible for planning your event with weather contingencies in mind. All events are rain or shine, so please prepare accordingly. No refunds will be issued due to weather.

No refunds will be made one week prior to the event date unless the cancellation is due to COVID.


CATERING

A warming kitchen located in the basement is available for catering uses. For more formal dining events, the caterer is required to attend a walk-through with a Gamble House staff member, a rental agent (if needed) and the booking organization at least two weeks prior to the event date.

No food or drink is allowed inside the house. No open fire pits or cooking are permitted on the grounds.

ALCOHOL AND BEVERAGES: Alcohol (wine, beer and champagne ONLY) may be served on the terrace or lawn. Alcohol sales are prohibited. No hard alcohol is allowed.


SETUP & PLANNING

RENTALS: Someone with the booking organization must be present to sign for all deliveries, and a cell phone number is required for all deliveries. If rental items must be left overnight, it is the responsibility of the organization to have security for said items. The Gamble House Conservancy will not be responsible for items left overnight. All items must be picked up within 48 hours of the event end time. For smaller, less formal events, the Gamble House has a limited number of tables and chairs and three 30-gallon trash cans available for use.

LIGHTING: Outdoor lighting is the responsibility of the booking organization. There is access to outdoor electrical outlets. Lighting placement must be approved by Gamble House staff prior to the event date.

LAYOUT: Setup diagrams are required for all events. Blank terrace and lawn maps will be provided upon request. Please forward a list of vendors and rentals to the Gamble House.

RESTROOMS: Event of 40 guests or more are required to include portable toilet rentals for guests. Portable toilets will be placed near the south driveway of the Gamble House.

SECURITY: Security is required for events with attendance of 150 and over. The number of security agents will be determined by the size of the event. Security is required to meet with a Gamble House staff member at least two weeks prior to the event date.

PARKING: Events with more than 70 guests will be required to hire a valet parking service or provide shuttle service. A representative from the valet service is required to meet with a staff member of the Gamble House at least one hour prior to the event start time.

No more than 20 cars are permitted to park in designated Gamble House parking on Westmoreland Place; additional street parking is available on Orange Grove Boulevard and Walnut Street.


SOUND AND MUSIC

Please take into account that the Gamble House is in a residential area when making your entertainment choices.

Loud music or amplified sound is not permitted. Sound of any kind is subject to specific decibel level requirements and speaker placement restrictions. Should the volume from your group’s entertainment, or public address system create a disturbance, the Gamble House staff reserves the right to request that the volume be lowered and, if necessary, continue without amplification. All amplified music must end at 10:00pm.

Please review all entertainment programs with the Gamble House staff prior to the date of your event.


BOOKSTORE

Arrangements with the Gamble House staff may be made for the Bookstore to remain open during your event. An additional fee may be required for this service.


PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING

Interior photography and filming of the house and its contents is prohibited unless arrangements are made in advance. Fees apply.

Exterior photography of the house during events is permitted for personal use. Commercial photography and filming must be arranged in advance and fees apply. Please direct all commercial photography and filming inquires to Sheryl Scott at sheryl@gamblehouse.org.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION & RESTRICTIONS

  • No smoking at any time on Gamble House property.
  • Visitors must wear flat or broad-heeled shoes to protect the rugs and floors. Slippers are provided to those whose shoes do not meet the required heel width.
  • Damage to the hardscape, landscape, structure or other is unacceptable. Any damage is the responsibility of the booking organization or signee. Should any damage occur during the event, any mitigation expense, including conservators’ fees, will be invoiced after the event.
  • A walk-through with a staff member prior to the event is required.
