The Gamble House exists in part because William Morris, Philip Webb, and C.R. Ashbee dared to reimagine how buildings should be made and how people should live in them. From October 7 to 16, 2026, trace the roots of the Arts & Crafts movement across England with Edward R. “Ted” Bosley, the renowned Greene & Greene scholar and Director Emeritus of the Gamble House Conservancy.
Join passionate members of Friends of the Gamble House for this rare opportunity to experience England’s Arts and Crafts heritage. With the insights of expert guides, the movement’s history, architecture, and craftsmanship will come vividly to life. Your eight-night program moves from London’s foundational sites to the Cotswold workshops, where Ashbee’s Guild of Handicraft settled in 1902.
Enjoy unparalleled context, behind-the-scenes access, and a rich understanding of the Arts & Crafts movement. Learn about the philosophy, the buildings, and the craft traditions that Charles and Henry Greene absorbed and transformed into California’s own architectural vocabulary. Exclusive visits to working silversmiths, gardens, and collectors’ homes ensure an experience unavailable to the general traveler.
Inquire about extending your journey with an optional Cornwall postlude from October 16 to 19, 2026. Explore medieval and Arts & Crafts treasures in this seaside region that captivated Charles Greene, including a visit to Tintagel Castle, the ruined medieval fortress on the Cornish coast that served as Greene’s visual source for the D.L. James house at Carmel Highlands in 1918.
