Mrs. Cora C. Hollister House
Hollywood, California
1904-05

The Hollister house is an adaptation of the Greenes’ 1903 design for Arturo Bandini that made use of the U-shaped floor plan with an outdoor courtyard. Inspired by the original hacienda, or casa de campo of Spanish-rule California, the courtyard garden was meant for entertaining and relaxation in the salubrious Southern California climate. Overhanging eaves created a covered walkway on two sides of the court. Inside, built-in features included an inglenook in a recessed part of the living room that led to the dining room by way of a passage to the left of the fireplace.
