Copyright

The institutions represented in the Greene & Greene Virtual Archives (GGVA) (The Gamble House, USC; the Greene and Greene Archives, USC; Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library, Columbia University in the City of New York; and the Environmental Design Archives, University of California, Berkeley) respect copyright and other legal rights associated with material under consideration for dissemination over the Internet. The GGVA makes items from these collections available online after a full risk assessment has determined the legal status of items and identified rights of owners or other parties to the fullest extent possible. Permission or authorization is sought from known rights owners or other parties for rights such as copyright, publicity and privacy. It is the patron’s obligation to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions when publishing, copying, displaying or otherwise distributing materials found in the repositories collections. Any publishing, copying, displaying or distributing for reference, personal, or educational use requires contacting the copyright holder and obtaining written authorization or may be in violation of federal copyright laws subject to the prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.

Copyright permission to use the Greene & Greene materials for the virtual archives website has been obtained from the Greene families. Photographs in the collections that were not works-for-hire have not been used in the GGVA and a best-faith effort has been made to contact the heirs of photographers.

The GGVA is eager to hear from any copyright owners who are not properly identified on this website so that corrections can be made and appropriate information provided in the future.

Image Use Restriction

Unless otherwise noted, and with prior agreement to the applicable terms and conditions, images from the GGVA are available as electronic files and other formats, either for private use or publication, upon payment of applicable fees. Note that the terms may vary from one institutional source to another. It is the responsibility of the user to insure proper adherence to all applicable copyright laws internationally.

Reproduction rights for decorative arts images from the Greene and Greene Archives, Huntington Library, USC, are held by Interfoto. To order reproductions, contact Ognan Borrisov, Interfoto USA, 140 East Chestnut Avenue, Monrovia, CA 91016. Telephone: 626-930-0078. email: oggy@interfotousa.com

The GGVA represents only a portion of the available documents housed at the four participating repositories. A selection was made at each repository to include the most requested and most representative images of Greene & Greene work. Researchers should be aware, however, that the images mounted on the web pages represent less than one third of the rich collections awaiting their use at these institutions. Individual repository inventories (finding aids or collection guides) at the GGVA website provide the most complete listing of what is available for research.

Crediting and Sourcing

Crediting the proper repository as the source of photographs or documents used as illustrative material is mandatory. Images downloaded from this site must be credited to both the site and the repository holding the original item.
