Hubert F. Krantz House West Palm Beach, Florida 1919 This design, long thought never to have been built, was recently “discovered” to have been constructed. The house as-built differs slightly from Henry Greene’s drawings, but is faithful to the footprint and exterior massing. Construction was probably supervised by a local architect since it is known that the Greenes did not travel to Florida in 1919. The client was the developer of the Prospect Park subdivision and undoubtedly the Greenes hoped that this commission would lead to others. For this triangular lot, Henry designed a large 2-story horizontal house in a style compatible with other large houses in Palm Beach. The window details, the sleeping porches, and the long gallery across the front facade are elements that connect the house to the brothers' California projects. The house is organized around a rectangular central unit that had small wings attached at 45 degree angles to it, thus allowing one to walk directly through the house into the large formal garden behind. The garden encloses a rectangle that culminates in two large curved pergolas facing each other at the end. Beyond these garden walls lie the servant's hall and garage, each with a sizable yard.
