Judge Charles Willett served as the attorney for Alice Greene
and her sisters in their father’s probate case. In 1904,
the Greenes designed a unique “T” plan house for
the Willett family for Pasadena. The initial design, which was
never built, had characteristics of Charles and Alice Greene’s
own home four lots to the west, including an upper-story octagonal
tower, which on the Judge’s plans was transformed into
bedrooms on both levels. Judge Charles Willett returned to the
Greenes in 1905, to design a rental property. It is a well-proportioned,
attractive design and after construction, was often reproduced
in national publications and became a popular model for other
small houses.
