City
of Carmel War Memorial
Carmel-by-the-Sea, California
1921-22
Charles Greene donated his architectural services to
the City of Carmel to erect a memorial to the fifty-six
citizens of the city who had lost their lives in the
First World War. Designed to suggest the bell tower
of a California mission, the arch is made of dressed
stone of varying sizes, and includes a bronze bell suspended
from a timber beam carved by Charles Greene.
