Judge George A. Gibbs House
Pasadena, California
1912
Henry Greene designed this addition and alterations for an existing
residence for Judge Gibbs. The addition included a living room
on the ground level and a sleeping porch and bath on the second
level. Judge Gibbs later hired the Greenes to redesign a foundation
repair for his house, and even commissioned a brick garage to
be designed, though this was never built. This project was designed and supervised by Henry Greene. The Gibbs' original house was a relatively small two-story house, with two bedrooms and a bath upstairs. Henry enlarged both floors, and re-oriented the
entrance of the house. He emphasized the scale of the house by adding a more prominent horizontal roofline and larger, more elegant windows framed by gables. The upstairs was enlarged to include two bathrooms and a sleeping porch. The major change on the first floor was the expansion of
the living room.
